The National Quilt Museum

The National Quilt Museum in downtown Paducah KY is a highly regarded art museum. Its mission includes introducing the world to quilts by today’s quilters via exhibitions, educational programs, and preservation efforts.

The Schroeder Museum was founded by Bill and Meredith Schroeder in 1991. They regularly add new exhibits to the collection, which currently has over 600 pieces. Three climate-controlled exhibit galleries showcase a diverse range of quilts and textile art. These include traditional works as well as those that you would never have thought were made from fabric.

There are even paintings and sculptures inspired by quilt patterns. Fraser Smith, for example, created a quilt made of carved wood. It is impossible to believe his work, which is stunning and looks like a quilt but in fact it’s an art piece. Its educational programs for quilters at all levels are what sets it apart from other museums. Workshops, lectures, youth education, and other programs are included.

The Floodwall Murals

The Floodwall Murals, a three-block art exhibit and history display in the center of Paducah, are a creative creation. Dafford & Roe are renowned muralists who transformed a gray concrete floodwall in the heart of Paducah into a top-notch art display that tells he story of the town. The painted walls feature bronze panels explaining each of the paintings.

Visit Paducah and you must see the murals. Visitors and locals can enjoy the murals as they bring history alive. In fifty-two large panels, the history of the city is presented. Each panel shows a different part of the history this city with home rule in western Kentucky.

For those who are interested in the arts, there are many attractions and events to choose from. Dogwood Trail Celebration and LowerTown Arts District. These are only a few festivals and events held all year. The 94.400 square-foot Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center is home to Broadway touring acts and entertainers.

William Clark Market House Museum

The museum is located in the Market House from 1905. It displays artifacts of the past. One of the highlights is an intact drug store, complete with gingerbread woodwork. Exhibits tell the story of the town, from its beginnings to the Civil War. Henry Clay’s lifelike likeness is also on display.

Alben barkley, the former vice president of the City is also honored in a special room at The Museum. Other rooms feature a Native American culture from the area, quilts created by Mrs. Robert E Lee and furniture used by Abraham Lincoln, as well as other highlights of this region’s history. Group tours can be arranged.

Purple Toad Winery

Purple Toad Winery attracts many wine lovers. There is a wide selection of award-winning and medal-winning fruit wine. These are available in Liquor shops throughout West Kentucky.

The winery is in Paducah. The winery has a very professional and courteous staff. You can taste their award-winning wines.

Allen and June Dossey, a husband and wife duo, own Purple Toad. Allen and June Dossey started their vineyard in 1997, but began building the winery in 2008 Allen’s Birthday, July 1, 2009 was the date of the winery opening. The huge crowds that formed to purchase the first bottle proved that their long-shot plans had finally come true.

The winery is known for its sweet wines, and it uses fruit juices as well as natural flavors to achieve the desired taste. Paducah Blue – a basic Concord grape wine – Black and Bruised – a Concord grape and blackberry wine – and Chocolate Harbor – a strong port style wine fermented using cocoa – are among their best sellers.
